Beneath the Roots of the Tree of Knowledge

Based on A Canticle for Leibowitz by Walter M. Miller, Jr.

The main character, the monk Brother Francis, sits inside a broken-into fallout bunker, reading bomb blueprints and looking out towards the hot wasteland outside. The two suns stretch into each other, representing his meditation on the cyclical nature of man's history, and the stretching double suns' form is also meant to evoke a mushroom cloud (it is a novel set post-nuclear apocalypse). The candles on the drafting table cast a shadow of "Leibowitz" to the left, opposite the desiccated corpse of his wife to the right, and this is meant to juxtapose his lauded pursuit of knowledge, versus the forgotten and looked-away-from human cost.
