When I chose to make a piece inspired by Madeline Miller’s "Circe," I immediately thought about vintage style travel posters for exotic locations. I wanted to find a way to explore the beauty and mystery of Aiaia. When I first read Miller’s take on the witch Circe’s mythology, I was immediately drawn to the island-a magical, secluded space with a self-filling pantry and a pet lioness? Sign me up! But the realities of Aiaia—including Circe’s exile, the sea monster that landed her there, and her family’s less than supportive behavior—are hidden just beneath the surface.
